The IU South Bend Veterans Book Club will be meeting Wednesday November 7, 5:30 in room 301 in the Schurz Library, to discuss Anatomy of a Soldier by Harry Parker. Mr. Parker served with the British military in Afghanistan. This is his first novel, which tells the story of a soldier seriously injured by an IED. The narrators are all inanimate objects which play a role. These include: a bag of fertilizer, a surgical saw, a helmet and other items that aren't immediately identified. The author draws heavily on his own experience of losing both his legs during the time he served.
The discussion will be led by Rodger Pinto, who is the president of the campus Student Veterans Organization. He plans to relate some of his own military experiences and the ways they informed his understanding of the novel.
Copies of the book can be obtained by contacting Vicki Bloom vdbloom@iusb.edu. RSVP to rculbert@iusb.edu
The book club is open to veterans, their families and others on campus and in the community who enjoy good books and great conversation!
