The next meeting of the Veterans Book Club will be Wednesday April 4 at 5:30 in the Schurz Library 3rd floor conference room. We will be discussing, War is a Force that Gives Us Meaning, by Chris Hedges. This book was featured in a previous campus read, and in light of current events it seems like a good theme to revisit. The author is a former war correspondent who covered conflicts in, among other places, El Salvador, Iraq, Sarajevo, and Kosovo. In the book, he uses history and classical literature to explore the seductive and addictive nature of war for individuals and societies. This book was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Nonfiction and a Los Angeles Times Best Book of the Year, as well as a national bestseller.
Copies of the book are available for checkout at the library (call number U21.2 .H43 2002), or by contacting Vicki Bloom (firstname.lastname@example.org.)
The book club is open to all on campus and in the community interested in veterans experiences and great conversation. To rsvp, or for more information, please contact Rhonda Culbertson, email@example.com
