Purpose of policy
The collection development policy for Dental Education guides the development and management of resources to support the programs.
Program Description
The mission of the program is to prepare students for the many career roles of the dental hygienist with a bachelor’s degree. The department of Dental Education is committed to excellence in theory and practice of dental hygiene and in the development of competent, socially sensitive, culturally diverse, and ethically responsible professionals. The program is fully accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation and has the mission to prepare students as clinical dental hygienists as well as make students aware of the many career roles available to dental hygienist with a bachelor’s degree.
Specific program objectives include the application of didactic information through patient care, demonstrate critical thinking, adhere to ethical, legal, and professional codes of conduct, evaluate different career roles, and design oral health community events that provide solutions care access and health education.
Courses
Cover anatomy, physiology, general psychology, microbiology, elementary chemistry, clinical radiography, medical terminology, pathology, radiographic procedures, radiobiology and protection, medical imaging, ultrasound physics, computed tomography, diagnostic imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasound.
