Serial Removal Project
The IU South Bend Libraries are embarking on a crucial serial removal project. This initiative is designed to not only create space for the expansion of our print collection but also to repurpose areas for student use. Most importantly, it's a significant step towards ensuring the sound preservation of our materials.
Library staff will remove print serials from the collection according to set criteria. Serials identified as the last copies within the IU Libraries system will be sent to the main campus for permanent storage. IU Libraries has two climate-controlled storage facilities in Bloomington that are more conducive to preserving print materials.
The serial removal project will be completed in phases, and the first round of titles for removal is available for review.
Serials for removal include:
- Titles in poor condition that need a better preservation environment,
- Titles duplicated in JSTOR,
- Titles with duplicate coverage in other electronic subscriptions,
- Titles that may no longer be relevant to the current curriculum
Feedback is requested.
If you have concerns about titles on the list, please contact Dean Susan Thomas at suethoma@iu.edu before May 3, 2024.
